FAQs

What is Open Day?

Open Day is your chance to step onto our campuses and experience what life at Deakin is really like. Meet academics and expert staff during information sessions, where you can learn all about courses and the support available to help you succeed. Join student-led tours to explore our facilities and learning spaces up close, from creative studios to cutting-edge labs. You’ll also have the opportunity to get hands-on with interactive demonstrations across a variety of study areas, giving you a real taste of what your future course might involve. It’s the perfect opportunity to discover what makes Deakin unique and picture yourself as part of our vibrant community.

How can I make the most of Open Day?

Start by planning ahead with your personalised online planner to save sessions, tours and demonstrations that interest you most. Kick off your day at the career and course information booths or join a student-led campus tour to get a real feel for the campus. Don’t hesitate to ask questions and chat with staff and current students along the way – they’re here to help and share their experiences. Use the Google Maps feature in your planner to easily navigate between sessions  and stay on schedule. Whether you’re confident or just beginning to explore, Open Day is your chance to jump in, discover new possibilities and get all your questions answered.

Do you have to register for Open Day?

You don’t have to register, but it’s the best way to stay in the loop. We’ll keep you updated and let you know when the planner goes live, so you can start mapping out your day. You’ll also go in the draw to win a share of $4000 worth of prizes, including AirPods Pro, an Apple Watch SE and $100 gift cards.

How does the planner work?

Each campus offers a full day packed with information sessions, tours and activities, all organised into its personalised plan just for you. You can browse and filter sessions based on your interests, then add the ones you want to attend to your plan. On the day, simply use your mobile schedule to stay on track and know exactly where to go next, making sure you don’t miss a thing.

What should you ask at Open Day?

Anything that helps you feel more confident and excited about your future.

Curious about which course will set you on your ideal career path? Wondering what units you’ll study or how assessments work? Interested in entry requirements, double degrees or what real-world industry experience you can gain? Staff and current students are there to support you every step of the way. No question is too big or too small.

Do parents attend Open Day?

Absolutely. Parents, caregivers, siblings and friends often play an important role in choosing the right university. We encourage you to bring them along so they can explore the campus, join sessions and see what makes Deakin a great place to study.

It’s my first time on campus. How can I find where I need to go?

We’ve added Google Maps to the planner to make getting around easier. Just tap the link in the session details for directions. You can even use Street View to double-check what the building looks like and confirm you’re in the right spot. And don’t worry, you’ll also find lots of friendly staff and volunteers across campus  to help you find your way.

Are Deakin campuses accessible?

Yes, most buildings are wheelchair accessible and include lifts, accessible toilets and automatic doors. All campuses offer accessible parking. You’ll also find Reset Rooms in each campus library – quiet, low-sensory  spaces designed to support wellbeing and help anyone feeling overwhelmed to recharge. If you require extra support on the day, just ask any staff member at a help point – they’re ready to assist.

How do I get to the Geelong Waterfront Campus?

Located right on the edge of Corio Bay, the Waterfront campus is easily accessible by car, public transport or even bicycle. With its unique waterfront setting and modern facilities, it’s a great place to explore. For details about public transport and parking, checkthe Geelong Waterfront campus page. If you want to visit Waurn Ponds on the same day, a free shuttle bus runs between the two campuses.

Where can I get answers after Open Day?

If you missed a session, or want more information about anything related to Deakin, our friendly Future Students team is ready to help. They can chat one-on-one about study options, support services, application processes, pathways to your dream degree and more. Give them a call on 1800 693 888 or enquire online at anytime

What’s the difference between the two Geelong campuses?

Each Geelong campus offers a distinct experience. At Waterfront, you’ll find striking heritage architecture overlooking Corio Bay, home to courses in health, nursing and the built environment. Waurn Ponds, set in a spacious parkland setting, is where you’ll discover engineering, science, medicine and elite sports facilities. Students often travel between campuses for classes or to make the most of shared spaces like the library. Open Day is the perfect chance to compare the vibe at each and picture where you feel most at home. We recommend you check out both using the free shuttle bus.
